Our Missions

Mighty Mac CRE Academy

(3LLA formerly)

Three Lakes Lay Academy (3LLA) began over 20 years ago as a joint mission of the Presbytery of Mackinac and the Northern Great Lakes Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. The mission consisted of a three-year curriculum covering a wide range of adult Christian education, including: Bible, theology, church history, liturgics, exegesis, preaching, polity, pastoral care, etc.

As 3LLA developed into a uniquely Presbyterian experience, it became clear that there was interest in adult lay education in the Presbytery for two distinct purposes. While the academy attracts people who are simply interested in growing their faith through adult Christian Education experiences, others are attracted by the opportunity the classes provide to explore the possibility of becoming Commissioned Ruling Elders (CREs) in the Presbytery of Mackinac.

Utilizing Zoom, classes are taught by ordained clergy, CREs, and others who contribute their gifts in particular areas of teaching that lend toward the curriculum objectives.

These classes, now operating under the title of Mighty Mac CRE Academy , benefit both groups of people who participate and they are a significant part of the foundation to become a CRE in the Mackinac Presbytery.

Presbytery Point Camp

Presbytery Point Camp, located on Lake Michigamme in central Upper Michigan, is a Christian camp with programs led by volunteers and members of The Presbytery of Mackinac, Presbyterian Church, U.S.A. Presbytery Point is dedicated to making disciples and meeting human needs. We encourage our staff and campers to “Believe, Belong, and Become.” The Point offers a variety of programs for campers of all ages and interests during the summer. Presbytery Point Camp serves as a guest rental facility for non- profit, educational, and church organizations, as well as off-season retreats as the camp can accommodate.

The Point is a “SAFE CAMPER ZONE” as outlined by the American Camp Association’s guidelines.

Presbytery Point is a very special place where the spiritual nature of campers is recognized. At Presbytery Point, campers are invited and encouraged to use their creativity and imagination, to dream dreams, to wonder, to ask hard questions, to reach for the best in themselves and bring that back to their homes, churches, and community. We combine these spiritual aspects with an outdoor atmosphere and diverse programming so our campers can develop, while having FUN.

Amid the chaos and ambiguity that confront our children each day, our camp values serve as our ballast. Our principles of positive child, adolescent, and Christian development remain true and constant. Presbytery Point has programs and services of great import that nurture and embrace learning. We try on individual camper basis to be part of the solution, and this involves changing our programs and policies to fit these often confusing times for youth, children AND adults. Please consider The Point as an INVESTMENT in YOUR child’s, and your family’s future.
